Moving abroad can be complex as there are lots of things to think about. However, some of these things are the same for nearly everyone. This is why I offer my services in the form of packages. Each package includes a particular service and is priced individually, and you can choose as many packages as you like to fit your own situation.
I also understand that some situations are unique and need special attention. For those cases I offer an à la carte service which is priced at an hourly rate. I will take the time to understand your requirements and will help you to the best of my abilities. If I realise that I am not the best person to help you, I will tell you so and will happily help you find the right person.
Having a pet is a joy. Animals show us affection and can help us in our daily struggles as well as sharing all our happy times. This is why we all want the best for them.
Moving country inevitably means changing vet and communicating in a new language. Having a poorly pet is stressful and understanding what’s going on and how best to help your animal is the first step toward his or her recovery. Likewise, a French vet with a poor command of English will find it difficult to do a good job, as some important information may be misunderstood.
In this package, I want to make communicating with your French vet easier, in order for the vet to work more efficiently and treat your animal in the best way possible. To do so, I will use my veterinary background and my command of both French and English to translate the medical history of your animal in French. I will also assist during consultations and do either telephone or Skype interpreting, or if this is not practical, I will contact your vet later on to get a summary of the consultation and will email you a report.
Translating the medical history of your pet will greatly help your new vet to understand the situation your animal is in and they will be better able to adapt any treatment or suggest any new solution should this be needed. Interpreting a consultation will relieve a bit of the stress experienced when your pet is unwell by ensuring that you fully understand your vet’s recommendations and advice. You will also be able to ask any questions and be sure they will be understood as well as getting the full benefit of a clear answer.
The pet package will be the easiest way to ensure your animal is well cared for while you settle into French life. Without it, you could be missing out on a lot of information concerning your animal’s health and your vet may not be able to perform at their best due to communication issues. At the end of the day, what matters most is for your pet to receive the care he or she needs wherever you decide to live.
Wherever you live, you will need a bank account. Keeping a UK bank account is possible but not recommended as you will have to pay high transaction fees, so once you have an address in France, it is best to open a bank account over there. Choosing the right bank is always difficult, they all have different pros and cons, and the bank fees are different from what you’ll get in the UK.
The Bank Package will allow you to get a better understanding of the banking system and to make an informed choice concerning your banking establishment.
To do so, I will present the various options offered to you, as well as introducing the different fees that French banks can charge. I will then help you choose the right bank for you by using an independent official comparison website. Once you have made your decision, I will help you open your bank account if need be, by enquiring about the documents needed and ensuring the process goes smoothly.
Once you know your options and the cost involved, you are less likely to be unhappy with your bank. This will save you time and worries in the future, as changing bank involves yet again another round of paperwork and form filling. Moreover, we all have different needs from our bank, and what works for someone, could be the wrong option for someone else. So, relying on advices from friends may not be the best solution.
The Bank Package will give you a clear idea of what to expect from your French bank, and will ensure that you choose the bank most adapted to your needs. This in turn will give you peace of mind and should save you time and frustration in future, leaving you to enjoy your French experience.
Living abroad is a great opportunity for children as they usually learn the language and make friends in no time at all. However, it can also be daunting to start a new school year in a new school, in a different country with a foreign language. Moving to France will be a big adventure for the whole family but you want this new life to be a success for your children as well.
So, it can be useful to be prepared and know what’s ahead in order to reduce the stress on your children and make the best choices for their education.
In the School Package, I present the French education system and also the various schools offered to you so that you can choose what you think is best for your child. I will present the options available to you and will also help register your child to the school of your choice and make a first contact with the teaching team.
By understanding the system, you will be better able to prepare your child toward a successful integration and academic year. And by choosing a school most adapted to your needs and those of your children you will minimise the challenge of starting a new education abroad. Making the teachers aware of your child’s arrival in the school well in advance will also give them the opportunity to prepare and discuss with you the best options to start his or her curriculum in France.
Deciding on the best school for your children and communicating with the teaching team will really help make your children’s change of country as easy as possible. Choosing the right school from the start and knowing you can rely on the teachers to help will avoid changing school later in the year or in the curriculum. This could prove difficult for children trying to integrate and learn as best they can in a foreign environment. The School Package is really suited to prepare your children to enjoy life in France as much as you do and reassure you that you have made the best choice for your children’s future.
Studying in France is a fantastic opportunity. It allows you to taste a different way of life as well as study your subjects. The friends you will make on the way and the knowledge acquired will be a great asset in your future career. The problem that you may encounter is that time flies by while you are abroad and you just have time to get used to the country before it’s time to head back home.
By preparing your stay as much as possible while still in Britain, you will be left with more time to yourself while in France to enjoy your experience.
With the Student Package, I will inform you of the various accommodations on offer on your place of education. Following this I will help you find the right accommodation for you and will also explain the financial helps available, and help you apply if relevant. I will guide you through the enrolment process for your host university and communicate with the relevant team to make sure all is in order before your arrival. Lastly, I will ensure you have your European Health Insurance Card before you travel.
This will cover your basics, assuring you of a place to live, a health cover and a clear understanding of your situation with your university. This will allow you to focus on your studies and to enjoy life in France as a student. By thinking ahead, you will also avoid wasting time on complications such as inadequate or expensive accommodation and missing documents, so you’ll be left with more time to do what you like and take full advantage of your short stay in France.
Everyone wants to have a nice time studying, and this is particularly true if you enjoy the adventure of studying abroad. However, it can quickly turn into a nightmarish experience if the conditions of your stay aren’t right or if there has been some misunderstanding between you and your place of education. I will ensure your time in France is a successful one and that your only regret will be not to stay any longer. And who knows, that could be the start of a longer chapter of your life in France…
Once you have found a place to live, you will need to get your utilities sorted. There are several energy and utilities providers in France, each with various offers and it can be difficult to find the right one for you, especially when the small prints look more like Chinese than French…
Understanding the utility market and choosing the best offer for your situation will set you on the right foot to live comfortably in France without paying for what you don’t need.
In this package, I will briefly explain the various rates offered by the different providers and help you make a choice for your situation. This will cover gas, electricity, telephone, internet and television. I will then guide you through the subscription process and be on hand to help you in case of complication.
It’s very easy to go for the first provider or the one that seems to offer the best deal, but on the long run, it pays to know exactly how much you are going to pay and what for. Comparing the different rates and providers will allow you to make an informed choice and be sure that you get what is most adapted to your needs. The rates system in France is also slightly different from in Britain and it’s good to know what to expect from your bill.
The Utility Package will be really useful to keep on top of your household budget. Whatever your situation you won’t be left wondering if you are paying too much for your energies and telecom. It will give you peace of mind that you are not wasting your money on an offer that doesn’t fit you right, allowing you to focus on more fulfilling aspects of your life in France.
Once you live in France, you will need to familiarise yourself with the health system. In most cases, health care in France isn’t free but the State covers 70% of your bill, with the rest being covered by a top-up health insurance or “mutuelle”. At the moment, as a UK citizen living in France, you are entitled to the same level of cover as a French national. Depending on your situation your cover will either come from the French government or from the British government.
By understanding the system, you will be better able to plan for your health care and be sure you and your family are properly covered.
In the Health Package, I will study your situation and provide the relevant documents to fill for your application for a health cover. I will also help you fill up those forms when possible. Finally, I will explain the ensuing process and the different steps involved when consulting a health professional.
By filling the right forms and dealing with the right organisations in France and the UK, your application should be swiftly processed. This will give you access to the whole range of care to the same level as a French citizen. Understanding the steps involved to get a refund will help ensure that you get all the information needed to the organisation concerned. This will in turn mean that you get your refund quickly and efficiently.
Health cover is vital for everyone. Whatever your situation, knowing that your health expenses will be paid for will greatly improve your peace of mind and your quality of life. The health system in France isn’t very complicated but you need to talk to the right persons otherwise you may end up going from one organism to the next until you find someone helpful enough to point you in the right direction. It is also important that you know what you have to do to get your refund, otherwise you will be losing time backtracking the information needed. When you have a health concern, you don’t want to worry about your refund or the cost of your care. This is why it is wise to register and understand the health system in order to get the protection you are entitled to.
When planning your move to France, you will have lots of things to think about. Changing your car for a French model may not be one of them. It is perfectly fine to keep your British car while you live in France. However, if you intend on driving it for over 6 month you will need to regularise your situation with the French authorities. Getting official documents for your British car in France necessitates numerous form fillings, and there are also forms to be filled for DVLA. You may also have to ask for a French driving licence which require more paperwork to be done.
This is the sort of situation where you will appreciate having someone guiding you through the administrative maze and facilitating your applications. It is a way to put your mind at rest knowing you are doing the right thing.
While I can’t fill in the forms for you, I can help you by giving you the relevant documents to fill in and communicate with the French administration on your behalf. I will also help you fill the French forms and ensure your application is complete when you are ready to submit it. By communicating with the French authorities, I will inform you of the progress of your application and of any delay or problem to be solved.
This will give you the assurance that your application has been filled properly and that any request by the French authorities will be translated for you. Not only will your mind be at peace knowing that you will be respecting the French laws in regard to your car, but providing the right documents straight away and understanding any issue arising could speed up the process and reduce any risk of delay.
Registering your vehicle with the French administration is not a matter of urgency. You will have a bit of time to decide what suits you best. But if you know from the start that you will be keeping your car for a little while when in France, then it is something that can be sorted efficiently from the start of your life in France. Otherwise, you will have to remind yourself to keep up with the French law, or you could be fine for not having the correct documents for your vehicle.
As long as the UK belongs to the EU, British people living in France have the same rights as the French people. That means that if your situation allows, you will be able to receive some benefits from the French government. There are numerous benefits in France and they are, for the most, mean tested. In order to claim benefits, you will need to fit some specific criteria and fill in a form from the French benefits office. There are also documents that you should bring from the UK that will give you access to some benefits in France.
I will help you get the benefits you are entitled to. As you are living in France, you are benefiting the French economy and so it is only fair that the French government give you a helping hand whenever it’s needed.
In this package, I will study your situation to have an idea of how you fit the criteria for benefits. I will then give you the application form and help you to fill it in, as well as informing you of other documents needed for your application.
With the Benefit Package, I will be guiding you through your application and reduce the risk of wasted time due to incomplete application or unsuitable situation. When deciding to live in France, looking into the benefit system is hardly something people think of doing. But as a European citizen you are allowed to receive benefits from your host country and moving can be costly, so a financial help can be a real bonus.
Every developed country has some sort of benefit system. Its aims are usually to support citizens in their time of need and to look after the most vulnerable individuals. It can be a one off or a regular payment but benefits have been designed to provide help with your finances. It is not about living of benefits, but if there is help available it would be a shame to miss it.
Although I’ve tried to create a package for most situations, I also understand that some cases are unique and need special attention. We are all different and so are our motivations and conditions.
So, for those cases I offer an “à la carte” service. This will provide help in whatever aspect of your life in France you need. However, if I realise that I am not the best person to help you, I will tell you so and will happily help you find the right person. My main goal is to support you through your move to France and to help you deal with any difficulties. This is why I am flexible and happy to help in various ways.
The “à la carte” service is priced at an hourly rate. I will take the time to understand your requirements and will help you to the best of my abilities. I will try to give you a quote from the start, but will keep you informed throughout the process so that you keep control of the price to be paid.
This way, I hope to be able to solve your problems and answer your questions whatever they may be. Once this is done, it will be one less thing to worry about and one more weight off your shoulders, leaving you more time to enjoy being in France.
Whatever your question or problem, I have tailored my services to be able to help you. It can be a big challenge taking all your attention or a minor issue cropping up suddenly, but it happens to all of us and at any time. In any case, I will be delighted to assist you and get you back on track to your happy life in France.
